Experience
Diamond Street Productions, LLC June 2011 - Current
Spencer has the experience and expertise as an independent business owner, recording engineer, composer/songwriter and producer at Diamond Street Studios in Atlanta, GA, recording both analog and digital audio. He works with Pro Tools for digital recording and editing. His current original catalog consists of material he’s recorded and co-written with collaborators, mostly under his guide as producer & engineer. He also plays keyboards, drums, bass and guitar, and started playing and taking lessons when he was 6 years old. He continues to develop his own catalog on a weekly basis. Before starting this production company and renting a small studio space in Little Five Points, Atlanta, he started his first record label in 2005, and has continued to develop newer label & recording ventures since.
Skills
• Technical skills:
Pro Tools systems – Recording engineering, editing & mixing dialogue, music, & other sounds. He also has some experience working with analog tape machines. Spencer has mixed, both in the box, and on desks for thousands of hours over the years. He has worked with and edited .OMF files in Pro Tools sessions for low budget independent documentaries and short films. He started using Pro Tools in 2007.
• Musical Skills:
Spencer started playing piano and taking lessons at age 6. He also soon started playing drums and quit piano to play guitars in his early teens. Eventually he started playing keys again in his early 20’s. He can write melodies and structure ideas quickly either working with live musicians or doing most of the job himself on his own playing the instruments. He is also comfortable working in the box with digital samples & sounds, and working with midi programming. Spencer has played in bands and the studio, to some degree or another, for most of his life. In recent years, after relocating to Atlanta, he began focusing more and more on music production and continues to write & compose original music! While his work has consisted of a lot of organic real instrument recording, he is also working with midi programming and sampled sounds.
Education
Cardinal Newman High School – West Palm Beach, FL 1994 -1997
Spencer graduated from high school in 1997. His college experience lasted a couple years at Sante Fe CC in Gainesville, FL, but he soon focused on his own creative endeavors. While working there in recording studios and crafting his own talents with music, he started his own first record label business in 2005 (Element Records), and then after relocating to Atlanta, in late 2007, he continued to develop his composing, recording, & producing talents.
There are a few projects I've worked on in 2009 as Sound Recordist or PA that are worth using as a reference. They are listed in my profile. I look forward to working on your project soon! Since then, I've mostly done recording studio work, & production, as I started my studio business in 2011.
FEATURE FILMS
- Two Guys and a Girl; A Feature Film shot in Atlanta in about 7 days that is a comedy, or as the director calls it...a Dramedy, was filmed in October 2009. I worked as sound recordist and production assistant, as well as script logging. This film has entered the editing stages as of Dec 2009 and as far as I know will be completed early in 2010. At this time, I may be working as a music supervisor for this film, and will confirm this with in a couple weeks, or as soon as I know about that.
- Every Scar and Dimple; A 10 day shoot in Atlanta, GA that took place in early 2009. This is a Feature Film and I worked as the sound recordist and a production assistant. The DP told me that the director of the film has not paid in full for his camera work, and thus the film has not yet been released. I do know that the directors film from 2007 received awards at various festivals around the nation. However, the directors lack of payment to the DP has seriously delayed the release of this project.
DOCUMENTARY - Veterans Administration Documentary shoot
1. Documentary about a Doctor at Emory University who specializes in hand transplant surgery! I worked as sound recordist and production assistant.
2. Documentary about the veterans cemetary system and one particular veteran who is in charge of the veterans cemetery system.
Both of these Documentaries were directed by one person who flew in from Baltimore and were shot in Atlanta in a 2 day span. To my knowledge both of the documentaries are for air on PBS, but have not been aired just yet.
I have been in the industry since 1990.
