Dear Selection Committee,
I am writing this letter to indicate my sincere interest in working for your organization/set. I have been working within the Film and Broadcasting industry for the past several years now. I have experience with HD, mini-dv, as well as with film formats. Thoroughly familiar in regards to all aspects of pre-production, production and post-production, I have provided my services to feature films, numerous student films (Columbia University, NYU, etc.), low budget shorts, independent features, television programming, client videos, live promotional events, music videos and more. I am an experienced Screen Writer, Director, Editor, First Assistant Director, Second Assistant Director, Utility Technician, Grip, Video Assist, Playback Engineer, Sound Mixer, Boom Op and Production Assistant. My technical and crew experience contributes to my abilities to manage and organize the various departments on any particular set. I have experience performing in front of the camera as well as in front of a live audience, which contributes to my abilities to relate to, and thus direct Talent.
My first short film, entitled "Ordinary People", is an exemplary indication of my capabilities to create and produce a final product, in spite of limited resources. The film was shot on location, in high definition, with minimal crew and on an extremely tight budget. Throughout the production, I wore many hats and made it look simple. The film was featured at the 13th Annual Black Men's Film Festival in Dallas, Texas as well as in the Act Now Foundation's Short Film Collective in New York City. Additionally, while affiliated with “Good Shot”, a Columbia University grad student film, of which I served as the First Assistant Director for, I managed and motivated the cast and crew, helping everyone to stay on task and to meet daily goals. I worked tirelessly, creating schedules, organizing meals, and supporting the Director, in addition to keeping him on course despite his widely dispersed priorities. One particular instance that I stepped up and displayed outstanding Assistant Director responsibilities was when I directed extras, a large group of boisterous children. It was a phenomenal achievement. That said, it’s quite evident that I am definitely an asset to any and all sets that I afford my energies to.
I have worked on such projects as MTV’s "Man and Wife," "The Dave Chappelle Show," VH1’s “Hip-Hop Honors,” and P. Diddy’s “I Want to Work for Diddy,” to name a few. With this extensive background and experience, I’m positive that my eagerness to contribute my skills and energies toward the success of any project that I’m a part of will make me a beneficial addition to any team or set. My high energy and good natured/optimistic demeanor provides a motivational atmosphere, as well as an inspirational one. I am also extremely detailed oriented and meticulous. My professionalism and dedication to my craft is overtly evident in my work.
Conclusively, I am a very down to earth guy and easy to get along with. I am exceedingly personable, calmly assertive, a great communicator and very even keeled. Aside from my industry experience, I always carry my unwavering tenacity with me into any and all situations. Willing and able to take on any challenge, my work habits are expeditiously thorough and professional. I am also an adeptly quick learner and my adaptable personality helps me to excel in a variety of environments. I am quite confident that my participation on a project or within an organization, such as your own, is beneficial to all involved. My qualifications are described further in the attached/enclosed resume. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanking You In Advance,
Jason J. Flatts
