Jose del Carmen Martinez is an accomplished filmmaker, camera operator, screenwriter and director based in New York City and originally from the Dominican Republic.
In his early years, Jose worked at Telecentro TV 13 in Santo Domingo as an Editor and after a couple of months started to Direct some news magazines. After completing a Systems Engineering course at the Santo Domingo Technological Institute (INTEC) he began working with the acclaimed film critic Arturo Rodriguez Fernandez. After taking a position as director of the Cine Club, Jose won a scholarship to take a General Production Course in at RNTC (Radio Netherland Training Centre) in Hilversum, Holland. After returning from Holland, Jose worked at Circuito Independencia, Channel 6 and after one year left for the United States to work with artists such as Sean Puffy Combs, Mad Lion, Fun Masterflex,Total, Notorious B, Smif-N-Wessun, Giant Storm,Mary Wilson,Parlay, X-Cess,Mellow T and Kali Ranks producing music videos.
Between music video shoots in the US Jose traveled to to his native Dominican Republic to work as a gaffer for the well known Hollywood Directors Sidney Lumet and Wes Craven. After a few years of working in music videos, Jose took a position with for NBC’s Telemundo 47 in New Jersey on the Morning Magazine “Esta Manana”.
More recently, Jose keeps busy working with well the known DPs and Directors Shane Hurlbut, Sergei Franklin, Igor Sunara, Director Wes Craven, Sidney Lumet, Maria Betty and Rolando Hudson. In all, Jose has has worked on over 30 music videos, 30 feature and short films and 25 commercials.
He keeps working and very active with various of the most renown Cinematographer in his hometown New York City and wherever his passion takes him.
