Ray Foley is a Producer who has worked professionally with Maysles Films (documentarians for Gimme Shelter, Grey Gardens and The Beatles First U.S. Visit), Collective, Giraldi, Hungry Man, Celsius Pictures, Identity, MJZ Productions and @radical media to create television commercials, documentaries, reality television and dramatic shorts. Foley’s lifelong passion for music has inspired him to work with the highest level of recording artists. He has recently traveled with singer legend Harry Belafonte to Berlin, Paris and London on a film currently in progress. Foley’s photography will be featured in Mr. Belafonte’s upcoming autobiography for American Masters, to be released in 2011. He was
also chosen to record the Students Non-Violent Coordinating Committee’s 50th Anniversary in South Carolina this past spring, where Mr. Belafonte sang “The Banana Boat Song” and inspired his audience. Grammy Award Winning Producer and Recording Artist Joe Henry selected Foley to direct and shoot an EPK for EMI Gospel, on the event of the recording of Aaron Neville’s newest album, “I Know I’ve Been Changed”. Allen Toussaint, the well known New Orleans R&B composer, producer and musical catalyst, sat in on the recording sessions at Henry’s recording studio.
Ray Foley’s producer credits include the Grammy Award Winning Documentary, “The Recording The Producers – A Musical Romp With Mel Brooks”, directed by Susan Froemke of Maysles Films; the Dave Myers directed opening sequence for NBC’s Saturday Night Live and “A Peculiar City”, the New York City 2012 Olympic Promotional spot directed by Bob Giraldi. Foley also worked with director Susan Steinberg (editor on Robert Frank’s portrait of The Rolling Stones, “Cocksucker Blues”) for American Masters’ special on Ahmet Ertegan, “Atlantic Records: The House That Ahmet Built”. Foley also worked with documentarian Albert Maysles on his autobiographical film “Hand Held and From The Heart”.
Verve Records chose Ray Foley to direct three music videos for singer/songwriter Teddy Thompson. Foley’slatestfilm“TheSalvationBlues”,originallycommissionedby HackTone Records and featuring recording artist Mark Olson, was honored at the Nashville Film Festival, the Minneapolis Film Festival and the Coney Island Film Festival. “The Salvation Blues” will premiere on U.S. television on the Documentary Film Channel this
October 14th at 10pm EDT. Foley’s previous film short about folk rock musician Neal Casal (former lead guitarist for Ryan Adams and The Cardinals), titled “Anytime Tomorrow”, premiered the original New Yorker Film Festival and was released on DVD through Fargo Records. Other recent projects by Ray Foley include recording the opening of the new Kanon Vodka in the environs of Stockholm, Sweden this past April and a documentary in progress for Bela-Victor Productions, shot on location in Sri Lanka for company owners Gina Belafonte and Julie Ben-Victor. Foley is currently developing a feature film about the life of rock and soul artist Arthur Alexander.
