Hello,

My name is Walter Matteson and I am documentary Filmmaker, Producer, Writer, and Story/Field Producer who has been living and working freelance in NYC for the last 10 years. I have worked on and have made projects ranging from truly independent documentary films, TV shows, web content, historical films and commercial long and short format - to name a few.

My passion is to tell and communicate stories and in a meaningful, truthful, and visually engaging way. I believe that real stories and characters not only make up some of the best fiction, but can have the greatest potential to communicate to the masses. However, I know there is a really fine line between capturing something real and something that feels forced.

I am extremely comfortable managing both large and small crews, working up to and against short and what some would consider stressful deadlines, and I love the dynamic of biding my time between the field and the edit room. I also love to research and find really compelling stories and one of kind characters and I have a knack for eliciting those unique qualities/stories and capturing them on camera, often in a short amount of time. I feel as though it is crutial to have a continuity between research & development, feild work, and the edit, which allows for both a smooth workflow through any given project and a strong sense of what the essence of the final piece will become.

I also really love the collaborative nature of the media industry, when, everyone is working together doing what they can do best.
